Visa services

Qatari nationals, as well as third country nationals legally residing in these countries and in case of their country of origin has no visa waiver agreement with Hungary are required to apply for a visa to Hungary. Please note that our Consular Section handles D-type applications only for Hungary. We do not represent Denmark and Latvia in D-type (long term) visa cases, only in C-type (short term Schengen) visa cases. Long-term visa applications for these countries should be submitted at their respective embassies in one of the nearest countries.

Regulations on a stay exceeding 90 days fall within the competence of national authorities, therefore there is no uniform procedure among the Schengen Member States. Foreign nationals requesting entry to Hungary with a purpose of a long stay may submit a residence permit application at a Hungarian Consulate operating in the country of residence.  The General-Directorate for Aliens Policing of Hungary makes a decision in residence permit applications.

Please be informed that as of December 2023, the law regarding national visas has changed, therefore resulting in changes to the types of visas as well as the visa application form. You can download the new visa form from here. For more information, please visit the website of the General-Directorate for Aliens Policing.

In the case of a successful application, the applicant will receive a visa valid for a single entry and a stay of 30 days in Hungary, where the request for the issuance of the residence permit could be lodged at the local unit of the General-Directorate for Aliens Policing.

A valid residence permit from one of the Schengen countries can be used as a short stay visa within the Schengen Area.
