Visa services
Please note that our Consular Section handles D-type applications only for Hungary. We do not represent Denmark and Latvia in D-type (long term) visa cases, only in C-type (short term Schengen) visa cases. Long-term visa applications for these countries should be submitted at their respective embassies in one of the nearest countries.
Regulations on a stay exceeding 90 days fall within the competence of national authorities, therefore there is no uniform procedure among the Schengen Member States. Foreign nationals requesting entry to Hungary with a purpose of a long stay may submit a residence permit application at a Hungarian Consulate operating in the country of residence. The General-Directorate for Aliens Policing of Hungary makes a decision in residence permit applications.
In the case of a successful application, the applicant will receive a visa valid for a single entry and a stay of 30 days in Hungary, where the request for the issuance of the residence permit could be lodged at the local unit of the General-Directorate for Aliens Policing.
A valid residence permit from one of the Schengen countries can be used as a short stay visa within the Schengen Area.
Important: "Enter Hungary" online platform
As of 1 January 2019, natural person clients or their authorized legal representatives may submit an application for a residence permit (issue or extension) electronically via Enter Hungary platform. In case the application is filed with foreign representations (consulates) or the grounds of the application are circumstances requiring special attention, application shall not be submitted electronically.
For the purpose of fast and efficient administration Immigration and Asylum Office ensures the possibility of electronic administration for certain types of cases in addition to those specified in the law. For this purpose, the website Enter Hungary was created.
Submission of an appeal
In case of a visa refusal, the applicant may lodge an appeal with the General Directorate ofr Aliens Policing within the set time period (this can be found on the refusal letter). The appeal must be handed over personally by the applicant to the Consular Section of the Hungarian Embassy. To appeal, please book an appointment through: https://konzinfobooking.mfa.gov.hu/
The appeal has no special form and formalities but must be dated and signed by the appellate and the intention to appeal has to be clear. The Hungarian authorities will review the application and make a decision. The fee for appeal is 160 EUR, which has to be paid with a visa card at the Embassy.
